Hello everyone! Today we wanted to talk to you about our labels, why and how we chose them and, above all, the lessons we've learnt from them!
We currently have 3 labels: the organic label that many of you are familiar with, the Vegan label and finally the French ingredients and production label. So why did we choose these to start our business? Today, we're talking about our organic label from nouvelle cosmétique.
THE NOUVELLE COSMETIQUE ORGANIC LABEL
So, as you can probably imagine, the organic label is 'the basis', and we simply couldn't pass it up. Indeed, when you want to sell in organic shops, you have to be certified organic cosmetics (which seems quite logical). So we chose Nouvelle Cosmétique.
But what does the organic label mean?
- The majority of our ingredients are natural (not transformed by primary mechanical or chemical processes) and of natural origin (derived from authorised simple chemical or biotechnological processes).
- "Nouvelle Cosmétique cosmetics and personal care products are made from substances or a composition of raw materials obtained using simple physical or chemical processes, without the use of synthetic molecules, and meeting precise environmental standards and criteria at every stage of production".
- A cosmetic product can only be described as "natural" if the finished product contains a minimum of 95% of ingredients defined as "natural" or "of natural origin". For example, our summer cream contains 97% of ingredients of natural origin. We weren't going to be content with organic regulations! We've gone one step further and formulated our product with 97% of ingredients of natural origin.
- No ingredients that have no place in natural cosmetics (derived from "heavy" chemistry, or synthetic ingredients) Mineral oils and waxes derived from petrochemicals, silicones, certain preservatives and synthetic fragrances have no place in a so-called natural product.
"Most organic cosmetics today have a required quantity of organic ingredients of between 5% and 20%, so it's only a small part of the product that is organic...the proportion of genuinely natural ingredients is not the same from one label to another".
THE COST OF THE ORGANIC LABEL AND OBTAINING IT
Acquiring an organic label is a complex and costly process. First of all, you have to submit a membership application in which you present the company, our products and our production methods to the label, followed by appeals. Then you have to carry out an audit in your own laboratory. Each of our farmers also had to practise organic farming, and provide us with certificates. The next step is to finance the label, which can cost anywhere from several hundred euros to thousands, depending on the label chosen. It's a cost for young companies like ours, but we believe that your trust is priceless 😉 .
So let's not forget:
"What makes a formula so rich is the quality of the selected ingredients that go into it" - Nouvelle Cosmétique.
